NFL football is finally here! What did the New York Jets do against the Jacksonville Jaguars in preseason Week 1?
Fitzpatrick, Jets offense shake off rust against Jaguars It took two series for Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets offense to shake off the rust from a long offseason. “I thought we did OK. We didn’t have a ton of plays, so I wish we would’ve got something more.”
Ryan Fitzpatrick played for 2 series vs the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 1st preseason game of 2016, completing 3 of 4 passes for 72 yards. He looked in midseason form with 26 yard and 43 yard passes to receiver Quincy Enunwa, which led to a 4 yard TD run by running back Bilal Powell. For a guy who missed most of OTAs because of his contract disputes with the New York organization, Ryan was sharp and had the offense in a rhythm.
“He played OK. He was efficient. He was fine.” praised head coach Todd Bowles, who later brought in Geno Smith and the backups to finish out the game. 2nd year player Enunwa was impressive, catching 2 deep balls. With his 6 foot 2inch 225 pound frame, he can be the X factor as opposing defenses cover Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Hopefully, Quincy can have a major role in offensive coordinator Chan Gailey’s spread offense.
As far as NFL games go, not much stock can be taken from this preseason game, as starters only play a few snaps before giving way to the substitutes. But it was nice to see some Gang Green football, even though it was in the form of a preseason game.
“I think the preseason is kind of a necessary evil. As long as nobody gets hurt, I think it can be very productive for us.” We can all agree with the Beard that the most important thing to avoid are major injuries to the starters in a meaningless game. Seeing the Jets players back on the field brings a smile to all New York fans.
