Déjà vu.
The very same thing that haunted the New York Jets in their Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs was what hurt them in the game versus the Seattle Seahawks. The receivers of the Jets failed the team. Ryan Fitzpatrick made all the necessary throws to keep the Jets down a score 17-10 in the 4th quarter. He was not to blame for the loss. These are the critical moments that turned the game against New York.
Jets 0 Seahawks 0 1st quarter 3rd down & 11 on Seattle’s 16 yard line
The football is snapped and Fitzpatrick throws it to the running back Bilal Powell, who can’t control the ball and tips it in the air. Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane intercepts it and Seattle takes possession. The play was reviewed by the referees and overturned because the pass was incomplete. Even though New York kept the ball for the 4th down, the fact still remains that Powell lost the football and turned it over to the opposing team. Had the turnover not been overturned, Gang Green would not have been able to kick the field goal that put them up 3-0 in the box score in the 1st quarter.
2nd quarter Seahawks 14 Jets 3 New York on Seattle’s 33 yard line
Quarterback Ryan throws the pass to Brandon Marshall just as the receiver falls down on the football field. Richard Sherman intercepts it and the turnover is reviewed by the referees. Sherman didn’t have control of the ball and is called incomplete. If Marshall had not slipped, New York would have converted the 1st down. Once again instant replay saved the Jets from turning the ball over to Seattle.

Tight end Braedon Bowman drops a pass by Fitzpatrick that hits him right in the chest. Had he caught the ball, not only would it have been enough for a 1st down but it would have been the 1st catch by a Jets TE in the 2016 season. Bowman could only shake his head in disbelief for not catching the easy pass as he returned to the line of scrimmage for the 3rd down.

Rookie receiver Robby Anderson drops the pass in his hands as he is defended by CB DeShawn Shead. If he had caught it, it would have been for a big gain and would have put NY in Seattle’s territory. Seahawks 24 Jets 10 4th quarter 1st down & 10 on Jets 9 yard line Fitzpatrick throws the ball to Robby Anderson who can’t pull it in and tips it in the air. Safety Earl Thomas intercepts it, ending the Jets drive.

Ryan throws a deep pass down the sideline to Robby Anderson, who is being trailed by Richard Sherman. He drops the pass at the Seattle 20 yard line. If he had controlled the football, Gang Green would have been in Seattle’s side of the field and would have been in scoring position.
Seahawks 27 Jets 17 4th quarter 50 seconds left in the game on Jets 48 yard line
Fitzpatrick throws to Brandon Marshall but the receiver runs a different route, which results in the ball going to the hands of Richard Sherman. All the blame is on Marshall for not being where he was supposed to be and leading his QB on. This turnover is the final nail in the coffin and seals the win for the Seahawks.
The receivers of Gang Green were the reason why the New York Jets lost to the Seattle Seahawks. If they weren’t dropping easy passes by Ryan Fitzpatrick that were thrown right in their hands, then they were running different routes that Fitzpatrick was not accustomed to in the playbook. The tipped balls were the turning point in the game and gave the ball back to Seattle. With the score only 17-10 in the 4th quarter in favor of the Seahawks, had Brandon Marshall, Robby Anderson, Bilal Powell and Braedon Bowman caught the passes thrown to them, the Jets would have gotten a new set of 1st downs and moved the chains. The outcome between these 2 NFL teams would have been different.
