New York Jets offense fails against Dallas Cowboys in NFL Week 2
All units of the Jets offense failed against the Cowboys. Quarterback, offensive line, running back, coaches.
Zach Wilson imploded versus the defense, throwing for 170 yards and three interceptions. His only touchdown was when he threw a 13 yard pass to Garrett Wilson who then ran 55 yards to the end zone. He completed just 12 of his 27 passes (44.4% completion) for 170 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions for a 38.1 QB rating. Breece Hall 4 attempted 9 yards (2.2 average). Jets only rushed for 64 yards. Garrett Wilson had 2 catches for 83 yards 1 touchdown, with a long of 68 yards. Jets were 1 for 10 on third-down conversions against the Cowboys.
Late in the game, down 27-10, Wilson threw his worst pass of the day as he threw it right to Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse, who returned it to the Jets’ 17-yard line. He also threw another interception with the team down 30-10 as he tried to get the ball to Garrett Wilson, but Malik Hooker picked it off. Wilson’s third and final interception came with less than three minutes in the game as Trevon Diggs got the fourth turnover of the game for the Cowboys.
The time of possession was significantly in favor of the Cowboys [42:15 to 17:45] as they ran 83 plays compared to 43 for the Jets. Gang Green didn’t get anything going offensively until Wilson’s 68-yard second-quarter touchdown slant to Garrett Wilson. Directly after that, running back Dalvin Cook was stripped by Parsons as the Cowboys recovered on the 37-yard line. That led to Aubrey’s third field goal, which increased Dallas’ lead to 14 points [24-10]. Wilson’s late interception set up Aubrey’s fourth field goal of the game, making it 30-10.
From the turnovers from Zach and the running backs to the awful pass protection from the offensive line, New York’s offense was abysmal. They managed to only get 215 total yards in the entire game. Their performance in the second half told the whole story: 3 interceptions, 2 punts, 1 fumble. With the way the Jets played on offense, they deserved to lose against Dallas.
