New York Jets release linebacker C.J. Mosley

C.J. Mosley signed a lucrative five-year, $85 million contract in 2019. He had 158 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, seven pass deflections, and 1 fumble recovery in 2022, which earned him a Pro Bowl. However toe and neck issues limited him to just four games in 2024.

Now that he has been cut, Gang Green looks to Jamien Sherwood as the future leader of the defense. The 25-year-old linebacker had a breakout season in 2024 after Mosley missed 13 games. He had 158 tackles, 2 sacks and 3 pass deflections and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player. New general manager Darren Mougey re-signed Sherwood to a three-year $45 million contract, showing how the Jets have invested in him as a building block for the team.
