New York Jets sign Justin Fields to two-year $40 million contract

Free agent quarterback Justin Fields has signed a two-year deal worth $40 million. At 26 years old, Fields showcased his potential during the first six games of last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He managed to throw five passing touchdowns, rushed for another five, and only threw one interception. This performance helped the team achieve a 4-2 record at that point.

However, after Fields’ strong start, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin made a surprising decision to switch to Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback once Wilson recovered from a preseason calf injury. This change raised eyebrows among fans and analysts alike, especially considering Fields’ promising performance.

Garrett Wilson, the team’s star wide receiver, shares a strong connection with Fields, having played together at Ohio State. Their chemistry could be a significant advantage moving forward, especially with the Jets new offensive coordinator, Tanner Engstrand, on board. Additionally, the team is under the leadership of new coach Aaron Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey, who are looking to build a competitive roster.

As Fields prepares for the upcoming NFL season, all eyes will be on him to see if he can reclaim the starting position and continue to develop into a top-tier quarterback for Gang Green. Sometimes a change of scenery can be just what a player needs to take their game to the next level.
